Gaining experience within public relations is very difficult, so when I received the email from purplefish inviting me for an internship I jumped at the chance to get involved!
My work experience was extremely useful as it introduced me to everything that the team are working on and how they implement tasks to develop their clients campaigns. I was sure to make notes from the word go to gain an understanding and was very hands on so I could support the team.
I was given many opportunities in the week to experience all aspects of how a PR agency works from sitting in on a pitch meeting with a potential client, creating a Gantt chart for a campaign, updating social media feeds to assisting with organising logistics for a event tour campaign.
A highlight was meeting Liz Gadd [purplefish non-exec] a well known creative industry expert in the South West. I also helped making media calls for a client’s campaign, successfully gaining interest from the Financial Times and Daily Mail!
Although brief, I was given a fantastic insight into the dynamics of PR and how an agency operates. I now feel much more confident in my understanding of what it takes to be an account manager from a junior level right through to senior. I’ve learnt how tasks are carried out to create successful campaigns and how social media is used to its full advantage.
The team are professional, friendly and thorough, working in a busy atmosphere with a great vibe. I enjoyed my time learning on the job and I hope to use this experience for similar opportunities in the very near future.
