Purplefish worked with West of England Academic Health Science Network (WEAHSN), part of the NHS, and Designability to develop the Design Together, Live Better campaign which placed citizens at the centre of health innovation in the South West. The aim was to collect citizen-sourced ideas to develop products to improve the quality of life for people living with challenging health conditions.
Further to research with all key stakeholders including supporting NHS trusts and charities, we agreed the theme for all communications around the project was "maximising independence". A range of integrated communication tactics were developed to gain input from people living with challenging health conditions across the South West and what ideas might help improve their independence. Activity delivered included: • Stakeholder messaging and mapping • Corporate ID • Responsive website with blog/event listings • Social media channel integration/management • Integrated ideas platform on website (Ideascale) • Eight public workshops held mid-June to mid-July • Launch event held in Bristol at first workshop • Flyers, posters, roller banners • Local advertising and PR campaign
94 people attended the workshops living with 22 different challenging health conditions. As a result of all input from the workshops and other communication channels. 12 workable product design ideas were developed with three shortlisted and turned into prototypes to be showcased at the WESHSN annual conference – one handed harness, portable bidet and companion trolley. The Design Together, Live Better project is being considered for national rollout across the NHS.
