Stepping aboard

I’m thrilled to have recently joined Purplefish as account manager, especially at such an exciting time of expansion for the company.

Two weeks in and there’s evidently a huge amount to learn, but I am excited for the challenge and to be working alongside such a talented group of individuals. The team has such an impressive breadth of experience in the communications industry; I am already inspired and blown away by their knowledge, energy and drive, and I can’t wait to learn from them and to be part of the process.

My experience is mainly across branding, marketing and communications. At TransPerfect London, I managed translation and localisation projects for a variety of international clients and built language style guides for their brands, and as project manager at Williams Lea Tag, I managed print-advertising campaigns for prestige make-up, skincare and fragrance clients. I’ve also worked in brand design, managing projects for FMCG and B2B brands worldwide in my role as account manager at Hart and Jones in Bath. Alongside my education, I spent many years in retail and I am also a trained Estée Lauder beauty consultant.

I’ve recently achieved Merit in the Translation and Professional Language Skills master’s degree course at the University of Bath, now a qualified French/Spanish to English translator, proof-reader and editor, and an English-language specialist. As part of my training, I interned in the English Translation Unit at UNESCO headquarters in Paris where, during the 201st Session of the Executive Board, I translated key documents for publication, produced summary records and provided on-screen real-time editing services.

With my experience working in different capacities for leading brands and as a qualified language specialist, I hope to bring my knowledge and skills to my new role at Purplefish, managing client and media relations and generating content, and to help drive the future growth of the business.

I also wanted to take this opportunity to mention industry demographics and highlight another reason why I am particularly proud to have been welcomed aboard at Purplefish. According to the PRCA’s PR and Communications Census 2018, women represent 66% percent of the industry’s workforce in the UK. Despite the high numbers of women in PR, there is still a gender pay gap of 21% in favour of male professionals and only 20% of women have Managing Director roles. Given this brief insight, the fact that Purplefish is a predominantly female company, with Managing Director Joanna Randall (recently named as one of the West’s most influential women) at the helm and where the employees are celebrated with huge levels of responsibility, is pretty significant. I am delighted to be joining a strong team spearheaded by confident, experienced and ambitious women and I’m looking forward to what’s to come.
