Where do you get your inspiration from?

Last week I went to a business book club hosted by High Growth Knowledge Network.

The book was Legacy by James Kerr. It looks at the success of the All Blacks rugby team by examining leadership concepts and strategies used in elite sport and how these can apply to business. It’s also a well written and easy read – unlike many management/business books which can end up being hard work.

Running a business is often a lonely, isolated job. A business leader is required to be decisive, inspirational, knowledgeable and diplomatic. Often all at the same time. This book gives insight into how to overcome challenges and strive to be the best in whatever you do.   It also acts as a great inspiration – which if you’re running a business – you will know is invaluable.

One of the key themes is the subject of mindset and how focus, attitude and character combined with hard work are often the things that provide competitive edge and long term success.

The book club gathering to discuss the book brought round the table a varied group of business leaders and the guest was Director of Rugby at Bath and ex All Black Todd Blackadder. Todd gave direct insight into the themes in the book and described first hand experiences of his life as a player and now, leader.

Everyone needs some inspiration every now and again. It provides energy, focus and sometimes a new way of thinking or working.

I’m interested in what or who inspires others – if you have a few minutes and would like to share your thoughts please do.
